Michael Iasilli for Town Board
Michael Anthony Iasilli is a Sag Harbor resident in the Pine Neck area who is a long-standing advocate and political organizer. Born and raised in Long Island, Michael currently serves under Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming as a Legislative Aide and has worked as an Adjunct Professor in Politics and History for the last six and a half years.
Having studied under the tutelage of Dr. Lee Koppelman, Suffolk County’s late Planning Director during H. Lee Dennison, Michael graduated from SUNY Stony Brook University with his Master of Arts in Political Science-Public Policy in 2016. Since then, he has taught a range of subjects in Political Science and History, worked in local government, and organized various local campaigns aimed at bridging the political divide and advocating for working people.
Michael was appointed to the Brookhaven Town Disability Taskforce in 2020 for his advocacy for the special needs community as well as public transportation. Additionally, he has been recognized for his various academic achievements as a recipient of the Davatzes Research Grant and University Doctoral Fellowship from St. John’s University, where Michael expects to complete his Ph.D this year. While getting his doctorate, he has presented at academic conferences nationwide and around the world, and was selected as a Visiting Scholar with NYU from 2019-2021 for the advancement of political and historical research.
Michael has had the chance to know the community’s needs after living in Southampton for the better part of three years. Since working for Legislator Bridget Fleming as her Legislative Aide for about two years, he has left his mark by providing exemplary constituent services and government resources to the people of the Second Legislative District, which include the towns of Southampton, East Hampton, Shelter Island and parts of Brookhaven.
Some of his efforts helped in crafting critical legislation to aid in the protection of the environment and wildlife, such as in the realm of “dark skies” law and open space preservation. Other areas include the establishment of issue-oriented taskforces like the Gabreski Airport Annual Review Board, which was brought before the Legislature this year; additionally, Michael was a co-author of the Gabreski Community Advisory Board’s Final Report, which was officially adopted by the Suffolk County Legislature in July 2022.
In his spare time, Michael enjoys playing music and has a collection of original songs on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and other streaming services, under the artist name, “Michael Anthonia.”
It isn’t every day that a person with demonstrated community spirit and proven ability decides to stand for election.
